Laughing the pain away

I have a new addition to the arsenal of tactics I use to haul my sorry arse to the gym a couple of times a week. I now save the motivational music for inside the gym and instead listen to comedy on my way there from work. Not only does it put me in a great mood, it utterly baffles the gym staff – surely no-one can be that happy about working out, they must wonder.

Today it was the turn of The Vestibules, a surrealist sketch comedy group from Canada, to get me going. They’re responsible for such masterpieces as The Ballad Of Marshall McLuhan and Laurence Olivier For Diet Coke, the first of which had me in stitches as I passed through reception this evening. And I managed my longest run of the year so far. Result.

(edit: found a link to the Marshall McLuhan song – here)
